Katydid
Camouflage
Katydids
are related to grasshoppers and crickets. They get their name from
the way their calls sound. Katydids fall prey to many predators
like birds, bats and shrews. To avoid falling prey easily, some
katydids disguise themselves as leaves. I came across one on the
ground and placed it on a leaf of a cinnamon tree. Feeling threatened,
it tucked in its hind legs and stretched its fore legs forward.
It sure did blend in well with the leaf!
